The Truth About Eternity

There are many important questions we ask about life.  Does God exist?  What’s my purpose in life?  What happens when I die?  The single most important question that you will ever answer is this - “If I were to die today, would I spend eternity in heaven with God?”  Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: No man cometh to the Father, but by me.”  Your relationship to the Lord Jesus Christ is all important to these matters.
The Bible tells us in I John 5:13, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life...”  The simple truth is God loves you and wants you to go to heaven.  The question you must then answer is, “Do I want to go to heaven?”

* You need to be saved. You ask, “to be saved from what?” The Bible is very clear we all have a tremendous problem called sin.  Romans 3:23 says it this way, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”  This verse simply means God is perfect and none of us are perfect. In fact, God shows us in many ways how we are not perfect, though the 10 Commandments are a good start.  Thou shalt have no gods before me, make no graven images, not take the Lord’s name in vain, keep the Sabbath day holy, honor father and mother, not kill, not commit adultery, not steal, not bear false witness, and not covet,  Are you willing to admit you are a sinner?

* Sin has a high price.  Romans 6:23a says, “For the wages of sin is death...” In other words, the price for sin is eternal death apart from God in a place called Hell.  The word, “hell” is often used carelessly and meaninglessly.  It should be taken seriously because God takes it seriously and will punish those who go there for ever and ever.  One way God describes this is Revelation 20:15 “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”

* Here's the good news.  God sent help!  The rest of Romans 6:23 says, “...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Again in Romans 5:8 it says, “But God commendeth His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us!”  This leads us to the next step.

* You must believe on Jesus Christ to be your Saviour! Jesus Christ came to earth as the Son of God in the flesh, lived a perfect life, died on the cross and rose again from the grave on the third day.  Jesus Christ literally paid for all of your sins by dying in your place and shedding his blood as a sacrifice for your sins. The price God demands for you sin is paid.

* John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”  God, in His great love, came to earth to make a way for you to be forgiven of your sins and be given eternal life!

* Finally, you must call on Jesus Christ to be your Saviour. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” In verse ten of that same chapter God says, “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”  Salvation is as simple as believing and receiving!  All you need to do is to believe and ask Jesus Christ to save you.
If you want to be saved and have eternal life, simply ask Jesus Christ to be your Saviour,  You could do that right now!  Pray something like this:
Lord Jesus, I believe that You are God, that You died for my sin, and that You rose again from the dead.  I know that I am a sinner and have sinned against you.  I ask You to forgive me and be my personal Saviour. I'm placing my full trust in You alone, and I now accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank you for keeping Your promise! Amen.
